I don't know about those particular Marlin rifles but I have a Marlin 1894 in .44 Magnum and had a Marlin1895 in .45-70. Both were gorgeous. I later had to sell the 1895. In the 1990s I got into Cowboy Action Shooting and picked up a Marlin 1984 in .45 Colt. It shot great but as you noticed on the 1990s gun, there quite a few machine marks.
In 1948, the Model 36 was replaced with the Model 336, which incorporated the patents of Thomas R. Robinson, a Marlin employee. The Model 30 is based on the 336, with mechanically identical operation. In 1998, the 30AS switched from press-checkering back to the cut checkering you see on this rifle.
It is worth noting that the factory specifications called for the .444 Marlin to have a groove diameter of .433" (and a bore diameter of .424"), indicating that oversized bullets would be necessary for best accuracy when shooting cast bullets. Also in the 1960s, Marlin introduced the .44 Magnum to the Model …

Answer (1 of 2): Well, the smart-@$$ answer is the reverse of the disassembly. But, if you didn't take it apart, as in you're building it from a kit, it's more complicated. Since I haven't played with one of these, I can't be of much help without actually looking at it, in hand. Even then, it wo...

I bought a 30AS in 1975-76 from J.C. Penny, package deal included a Marlin 4X scope and mount, added a box of shells a cleaning kit and a soft case which lightened this then teenagers wallet by a grand total of $125. It turned out to be very accurate, I used it to shoot crows and buzzards more than once, besides being my whitetail gun.

The Marlin Model 30A (a Glenfield version of the Model 336) was made from 1973 to 1983. Steve is correct, subtract the first two digits of the serial number from 100 to get year of manufacture. There were 268,905 of the Model 30A's made during the production run. I hope this helps.
John Marlin's team developed the Marlin Model 1881, a rugged repeating lever rifle first offered in .45/70 Govt. By combining .45/70 power with a repeating rifle, Marlin produced an outstanding combination for a ready market. When the .30/30 introduced smokeless powder, Marlin …
The Marlin 30 AW was a little less muzzle-heavy than the 336 CS, but more so than either Model 94. We found shouldering of the 30 AW to be the least natural of the test, as was target acquisition. The buttplate was uncomfortable because of the shape of the toe, and it …

I have a model 30AS that my dad bought new for me for Christmas in 1987. Serial number backs that up as it starts with 13. It has maybe 50 rounds through it and that is probably a high number. What's a guess on the worth of this rifle? I don't use it and don't really have a need for it.
Marlin Firearms has been manufacturing the 336 since 1948. In all-time sales of high-powered rifles in the United States, the 336 is second only to the Winchester Model 94. Chambered in .30-30, Marlin's potent Brady to Welker-esque hunting rifle combo has put venison on many a table across the country.
