Ball mill the charcoal and sulphur mix for about 3 hours (without adding any potassium nitrate). Add 75 parts of potassium nitrate (powdered) to the charcoal and sulphur mix in the ball mill. It could be the charcoal or the KNO3 holding the moisture, you would have to make sure that both ore completely dry before ball milling to get it to not clump. The recommendation is to check the ball mill every 30 minutes and/or tap the jar to break up the clumps. Personally, I don't mill BP in the summer and wait until its winter to mill BP.

In 8 hours the KNO3 was very fine but the nickels had compacted KNO3 on the face and back of the coins so thick that the coins looked like little footballs in profile. What a mess!
